Joining The Ideas Lab membership with John Spencer Williams requires agreement to the following terms, which we've kept as clear and straightforward as possible.
These terms apply to the standard Ideas Lab membership and to any seasonal programme delivered inside the membership (such as the Breakthrough Bestseller Summer School).
Your membership
- The Ideas Lab is a monthly subscription membership. There is no minimum term and no tie-in. Stay for one month or stay for many — it's up to you.
- Your membership gives you access to the live sessions, mini-courses, training library, community group, and any seasonal programme running during your membership, for as long as your membership remains active.
- The membership is delivered across two platforms: a private Facebook group, which is our main place for communication, conversation, and community, and our online learning platform, where all the course materials, worksheets, and recordings are uploaded. To get the full experience of the membership, you'll need to be able to access both.
- We regularly add, update, and occasionally retire content and sessions. The exact line-up of sessions, guest experts, and resources may change over time. Session times vary, and everything is recorded so you can catch up if you can't attend live.
Payments
- Membership is billed monthly in advance, starting on the day you join. Your subscription renews automatically each month on or around the same date until you cancel. By joining, you authorise us to take this recurring payment.
- The price shown at checkout includes UK VAT where applicable. The Ideas Lab London Ltd is a VAT registered company.
- If a payment fails, we'll attempt to collect it again and may contact you to update your payment details. If payment cannot be collected, your access to the membership will be suspended until the balance is settled.
- We may change the membership price from time to time. If we do, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any new price applies to you, so you have plenty of time to cancel if you'd rather not continue.
Cancelling your membership
You can cancel at any time. To cancel, email us at support@theideaslab.org.
- Please give us a minimum of 2 business days' notice before your next payment is due. We need this time to process your cancellation before the next payment is taken. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays. For example, if you email us on a Friday, your cancellation will be processed by the following Tuesday.
- If you give us less than 2 business days' notice before your renewal date, your next payment may still be taken. In that case, your cancellation will take effect at the end of that final paid month, and you'll keep full access to the membership until then. No further payments will be taken after that.
- Your cancellation is only confirmed once you receive a confirmation email from our team. If you haven't heard back from us within 2 business days of emailing, please follow up — we don't want you paying for something you no longer want.
- Cancelling your subscription through your card provider or bank without notifying us does not count as giving notice, and any payments taken before we're made aware are non-refundable.
- When your membership ends, your access to all membership content ends too, including the training library, recordings, community group, and any seasonal programme in progress. Membership content is not yours to keep or download for use after your membership ends.
- You're always welcome back. If you rejoin later, the price and any programmes available will be those on offer at the time you rejoin.
- If you have any concerns about the membership at any time, please reach out to any member of The Ideas Lab team and we will do everything we can to make sure you get great value from your membership.
Seasonal programmes (including the Breakthrough Bestseller Summer School)
- From time to time we run seasonal programmes delivered inside the membership, such as the Breakthrough Bestseller Summer School. These are included in your monthly membership fee while the programme is running — there is no separate charge unless clearly stated at the time.
- Access to a seasonal programme, including its live sessions and recordings, requires an active membership. If you cancel part-way through a seasonal programme, your access to the remaining sessions and all recordings ends when your membership ends. To complete a programme, simply remain a member for its duration.
- Seasonal programmes run for the period advertised. Individual session dates, times, topics, and guest experts may occasionally change, and where a live session can't go ahead as planned we'll reschedule it or provide a recording or equivalent content.
Access and content
- Your membership access is strictly for you personally. Your login and the content inside the membership are not to be shared with anyone else.
- You may not take John's content, frameworks, worksheets, or other membership materials and teach them as your own, share them with your clients, or reproduce them anywhere outside the membership. All content remains the intellectual property of The Ideas Lab London Ltd.
- Recordings of live sessions are provided for members' personal use only and may not be copied, downloaded, or distributed.
- By taking part in live sessions, including hotseats, you understand that sessions are recorded and made available to other members. If you'd rather not appear in a recording, keep your camera off and use the chat, or let us know in advance.
Community and behaviour
- Our community runs in a private Facebook group, which is the main place where members and the team communicate day to day. Our courses, worksheets, and recordings live on our own private learning platform. You'll need access to both platforms to get the full experience of the membership.
- To join the Facebook group you'll need your own free Facebook account. Facebook is an independent platform with its own terms of use, and your Facebook account is your own responsibility. If you choose not to use Facebook, or your Facebook account is unavailable to you for any reason, you can still use the learning platform, but you'll miss out on the community side of the membership — and this doesn't entitle you to a refund, as the Facebook group requirement is made clear before you join.
- We may change or move either platform from time to time — if we do, we'll let you know and help you find your way.
- We want everyone to enjoy The Ideas Lab and get great results. We're always open to feedback, but anyone who is repeatedly unpleasant to John, his team, or other members, or who disrupts the community, will have their membership ended without a refund.
- Please don't use the community to spam, pitch, or promote your own offers to other members unless invited to do so.
What we can and can't promise
- The Ideas Lab provides education, inspiration, and support. What you create with it depends on you — your ideas, your effort, and your circumstances. We can't and don't guarantee any particular outcome, income, book sales, or business results.
- Nothing in the membership constitutes legal, financial, accounting, or other professional advice. For decisions in those areas, please consult an appropriate professional.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes your statutory rights as a consumer, or any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law. Beyond that, our total liability to you in connection with your membership is limited to the membership fees you've paid to us in the 12 months before the issue arose.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. If we make a change that materially affects you, we'll give you notice by email before it takes effect. If you don't agree with a change, you can cancel your membership as described above.
