AI has rocked our world this month, and I want to tell you why it’s so exciting for anyone who loves ideas, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Here are 3 applications of AI available right now that will blow your mind:
1. ChatGPT – 5 days to one million users
12 days ago OpenAI (founded by Elon Musk, Sam Altman and others) release a chatbot interface to their AI system called GPT and people were shocked by how good it is.
ChatGPT can answer complex questions and spit out entire scripts for made up comedy sketches or song lyrics in seconds (this is a review of my book in the style of a Beatles song).
OpenAI tweeted about the release of ChatGPT on 30 November. 5 days later they hit one million users. One of my favourite uses of it though is this one from Danny Richman:
ChatGPT is based on GPT version 3.5. Apparently, GPT4 is coming within a few months and when it does it will be even more shocking.
I believe we will see pretty usable AI coaches and therapists within one year or at most, two. ChatGPT is currently free and you can register at https://chat.openai.com. Have a play!
2. Code generators
Imagine a time when you can turn your idea for an app into code without ever learning to programme!
That is already becoming a reality. It’s early days but programming tools GitHub and Replit both have versions of code generators and ChatGPT can also do it (see my experiment below). By the way, if you’ve ever thought about learning to code, Replit have released a great free course to teach you Python in 15 minutes a day. Python is a handy language for all sorts of quick stuff like automating something in your business and also happens to be great for AI projects.
3. AI Avatars and other images
2 weeks ago when I got these AI Avatar images people were blown away by them. Now they seem passé!
My images were created by AvatarAI which was built by solopreneur legend Pieter Levels (who is also responsible for digital nomad tools nomadlist.com, remoteok.com, and rebase.co. Pieter is not an AI expert. He created a website that talks to AI system Stable Diffusion. Despite this, AvatarAI is now making Pieter $70k-$125k/month
I also tried midjourney which is another AI art generator but is pretty painful to use. I asked it to create an image of Elon Musk as US President and here’s what it produced.
A competitor rose to prominence after AvatarAI called Lensa and because it was simpler to use and cheaper (thanks to VC funding) it is already making $1 million per day.Video is next to get the AI treatment. Got an idea for a movie but no budget, no actors and no camera? Soon you’ll be able to create the whole thing from scratch using AI. Watch this remarkable demo from RunwayML:

Conclusion
Things are going to get freaky in the next 12-24 months (and beyond).
This is both very exciting and a little scary – because too much change at once can be disruptive (destroying entire industries for instance). We will also see a lot of content on social media and elsewhere that is AI-generated including deep fake videos so our ability to use good judgement will be more important than ever.
Artists and creatives should be excited by this. Don’t think of this as a threat but as a tool, just as photoshop and animation apps and digital audio workstations are a tool. And it will open up the world of creativity to people who don’t have the traditional skills. This will make good taste more important than ever because the barriers to creation will disappear.
As I wrote first in Screw Work Let’s Play in 2009 and is now more true than ever, if what you’re doing for work is easily defined and repeatable your job is under threat. You need to move to a higher level and do something unique, something unautomatable.

Aside from this, I want to encourage you to dive in and have some fun with AI. Try some of the tools above or browse through Futurepedia to find others. Don’t sit back and wait while the world changes around you.
